Gentleman, it’s time to flash a bit of ankle! Rolled-up chinos, and tailored cropped slacks with flashy socks rocked the Fall ’13 runways once again.
In Paris, Carven took an extreme take on the trend with a trouser cut right below the knee while Alexander McQueen stuck with the traditional ankle-peg pant and showcased them with bright pinstripe socks and fantastic baroque-slipper. Models at Valentino went bare and instead, flashed a sliver of skin around their trouser hems. Alexander Wang went in a sportier direction designing trousers that were wide through the thigh and tapered at the ankle with convenient zips and snaps at the bottom. From Milan, London, to Paris, designers reaffirmed that the ankle look is here to stay and we can’t help but applaud the question they seem to ask: what’s the point of having a pair of fancy shoes if you can’t actually see them?
